Professor Adam Booth - Presenter 

Adam is Professor of Applied Geophysics and Communication in the University of Leeds School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability. In his research, he uses geophysics to understand underground structures without digging them up, for applications ranging from Antarctic ice to Kalahari meerkats. Adam's projects regularly involve public stakeholders and he is passionate about improving the public understanding of science. To this end, he developed and hosts the "Quantum Sauce" series of research nights.

Professor Fleur Loveridge - Earth, Watts and Fire! Heating your home with subsurface solar energy

Sunlight in your central heating? Professor Fleur Loveridge considers a clean energy future in Quantum Sauce: Superstar! 

Fleur is Professor of Geo-Energy Engineering in the University of Leeds School of Civil Engineering. With an urgent need to decarbonise energy supply, Fleur's research demonstrates how geothermal heating systems can be optimised for mainstream use. Putting the rays in your radiators, Fleur's talk explores the interface between solar and geothermal energy in the drive for Net Zero emissions.

Dr Jim Leary - Sun, Stone, and Circles; Neolithic Religion and the Solstices - Sun worship, Neolithic style! Dr Jim Leary shines some sunlight on Neolithic practices, in Quantum Sauce: Superstar!  

Jim is Senior Lecturer in Field Archaeology at the University of York. With an uncanny ability to learn from the landscape, Jim is a leading expert on the British Neolithic period and the people who lived through it. Jim's talk takes you back 4000 years, delving into the henge-building habits of ancient Britain. How confident can we be that we understand their religion and practices? 

Dr Catherine Walsh - Know your Star! The interstellar history of our Sun

Ever wondered where you come from? Dr Catherine Walsh has the answers, in Quantum Sauce: Superstar!

Catherine is a Future Leader Fellow in the University of Leeds School of Physics and Astronomy. She uses molecular physics to understand stars, from their birth to their eventual burn-out, and leads four research programmes at Chile's ALMA space observatory. From atomic to astronomic scale, Catherine's talk will explore the origins of the solar system and everything in it, and where a few billion years could see it headed...   

With an interstellar soundtrack provided by Dr Juan Hernandez Vega - Making music from solar science - the soundtrack to Quantum Sauce: Superstar!

Juan is Assistant Professor of Music in Colombia's Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Composer, performer and sound artist, he pioneers computer-based approaches that sonify science data into musical works. His works have soundtracked numerous exhibitions, including Leeds' Light Night in 2024. It's space, but not as you heard it: get inspired by Juan's hypnotic hijack of astrophysical observations!
