Are you 13-17 years old, living in Wakefield district? Do you love Fashion Design? Have you ever dreamed of designing and making your own clothes? This is your chance to Make it Happen!

Take part in a 5-day intensive skills camp, create, design and bring your ideas to life in this hands-on fashion and textiles course.

What you’ll do:
  • Learn how to use a sewing machine, make your own one-size garment and turn old denim into a backpack.
  • Experiment with fabric painting and dyeing.
  • Explore textile art by creating colourful woven pieces and working together on a bold fabric sculpture using recycled materials.
  • Create your own unique fashion pieces to take home and gain the confidence to keep creating.
  • Work towards achieving an Arts Award.

Don’t worry at all if you don’t have experience in using sewing machines, this is a friendly and inclusive week where you will learn together.

What you’ll experience:

The project will be practical, collaborative and supportive. The big focus is creative expression and you will gain hands-on experience of what it feels like to work as a fashion designer working individually and as a team to create and make original work.

Who will teach you:

Your Creative Coach is Ruth Agbolade a Fashion & Textiles Artist and founder of Upcycle Art CIC. Ruth believes in the power of art to heal, unite, and create change while giving discarded materials a second life, turning trash into treasure and building a future where nothing goes to waste.

What you need to know:

This skills week is FREE to attend but participants must be available to attend for all 5 days of the course: 10am – 3:30pm daily from Monday 17 to Friday 21 August.

This opportunity is for Wakefield district residents aged from 13-17yrs.

This course will take place in the WX2 Meeting Room at Wakefield Exchange.

An optional lunch is available, or you can bring your own.
