Sustainability Surgeries from 10:30am – 3pm

We have with partnered with SAIL (Sustainable Arts in Leeds) to offer FREE sustainability surgeries for local creatives with Mary Lawrence, Lead Sustainability Consultant at SAIL, a not-for-profit based in Yorkshire and working across the creative and cultural sectors in response to the climate crisis. Mary works with a range of creative organisations and freelancers to help them understand the role they can play in reducing their carbon emissions, communicating to audiences, and build long-term resilience. Mary is a Practitioner member of ISEP, the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals.

The surgeries are 20 minute 1-2-1 meetings and are informal, friendly, and supportive and are designed to meet you at whatever stage you are at on your sustainability journey.  You can chat to Mary about:

  • Your values and how to communicate your approach to sustainability to your audiences, partners and funders.
  • Explore areas such as sustainable power, waste management, procurement, environmental action planning and data collection.
  • Access practical support such as sustainability toolkits and sector training.

Meet Helen from 1-3pm

Helen Thomas is a Wakefield-based visual artist who works in response to plants in the environment. She makes notes, sketches, and takes photos on path edges and in corners of car parks. These ‘noticings’, as Helen describes them, inform the paintings that she makes in her studio at The Art House.

You are warmly welcome to:

  • See Helen’s new display ‘George Street to Mulberry Way’ at The Wall (on the Mezzanine).
  • Join Helen for an informal and friendly chat about her creative practice.
  • ‘Take 5 to notice’, a creative activity inspired by Helen’s practice.
