Tickets

General Admission - Free

Please note that a ticket is only required for those making a lantern.

Parents, guardians or carers who are accompanying and supporting a child during the workshop do not need to book a ticket unless they would also like to make their own lantern.

We're excited to invite you to be part of this year's Light Up Wakefield Lantern Parade!

Participants will first attend a free lantern-making workshop at Wakefield Exchange to create their lantern, before returning on Saturday 14 November 2026 to carry it in the Light Up Wakefield Lantern Parade through Wakefield city centre!

There are two workshop dates available, with limited spaces so booking is essential.

Please note that these workshops are primarily for people who wish to take part in the parade, as the lanterns are made during the workshop and then used in the parade on event day.

If you would prefer not to walk in the parade, you can collect your completed lantern on Saturday 14 November and enjoy the parade from the sidelines. Collection details will be provided at the workshop.

Workshop Details

Each booked participant will design and make their own nature-themed lantern.

All materials required to create the lanterns will be provided.

Drinking water will be available, and food and refreshments can be purchased at Wakefield Exchange from the range of vendors on site.

The sessions are delivered by facilitators from Handmade Productions, a professional arts company who will guide participants through the lantern-making process.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an appropriate adult throughout the session.

At the end of the workshop, participants will leave their lantern to dry and be finished by the team. They will then be invited to return on the event day to collect the lantern they have made and take part in the parade.
